The primary interest of this castle, registered as a Historical Monument, lies in its history, which intertwines with the history of the farming estate, and in the quality of its architecture which goes back to the 12th century.
The oldest part of the castle is a big dungeon, thought to go back to the Knights Templar, to which lodgings were added in the 16th century then a small château under the Directoire at the end of the 18th century.
One century later, the architect Revoil extended the château and modified the oldest parts. Revoil also partially changed the layout of the grounds, which had been designed by Meunier.
The grounds: based on a drawing from 1795, a vegetable garden and orchards had been planted around a beautiful double lane of plane trees, cross lanes and a noria in the western part of the garden. The Parisian architect Meunier, designer of the neo-classical château, proposed a few modifications in 1796 and added a grove of plane trees opposite the new gate, which can still be seen today. The lanes of lane trees form a major central axis and confer spectacular character on this setting, which has been made into landscaped grounds. There are many beautiful trees and a boxwood topiary maze. A 13th century dungeon overlooks the grounds, standing above the plains where fields are farmed today.
