The Arles route

The main staging posts on the Arles route Castres to Marciac

The Arles route was followed by pilgrims journeying from the Alps, the Slavic regions, Italy and Provence. Also known as the Via Tolosana because much of it passed through the territory of the powerful Counts of Toulouse, this southern route played an important role in not only intellectual and artistic exchanges but also trade between the eastern Mediterranean basin and the Iberian peninsula.
